About Me.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, I have worked with businesses across a wide variety of industries including independent film production, photography, academia, and audio engineering. Although I began designing for the web largely out of curiosity, I have since developed an all-consuming dedication to the craft.

As a freelance web developer, the main focus of my skills lies in creating clean, distinctive designs and developing standards-compliant HTML/CSS. As a marketing professional, I can help my clients better engage with the social web and build strategy-driven digital marketing campaigns.

The beauty of having such a varied skill set under my belt is that, with me, you get a comprehensive package of design know-how and marketing finesse: a truly potent combination. Since the digital landscape is always in flux—expanding and growing— future-planning is a key element in all my designs.

Work I've done.

  • Client / Retrospect Photography

    Design + Development, Javascript

The driving force behind Retrospect's website design was clean lines and a minimalist esthetic. With multiple slideshow galleries available in the portfolio section, I wanted to ensure that the minimalist concept extended equally to the site's page optimization. I paid particular attention to loading times throughout, and took care to optimize all visual elements.

While the site also makes good use of the new styling properties available in CSS3, like rounded corners and box shadows, the overall site design adheres to the standards of graceful degradation in older browsers.

  • Client / Derek Moorhouse

    Design + Development, Javascript

As a graphic designer with over 30 years of industry experience, Derek Moorhouse needed a website that could showcase a large and diverse portofolio of work. Using jQuery filters and lightbox animations, I created a highly interactive portfolio section.

We also made good use of his illustrations by incorporating them into the headers and footers of each page of the site, thereby lending each page its own unique flavor.

Bowman Sound in an audio engineering company that caters primarily to up-and-coming Vancouver indie artists.

Company founder Josh Bowman wanted a website that could showcase his audio portfolio. The jQuery audio player I created makes use of HTML5 audio tags and includes stop, pause, and play functionality. The site's design is streamlined for fast page loads and simple navigation.

As a film company that produces primarily short films and documentaries, AWP wanted a website that would feature their work using a mixed bag of multimedia components including video integration and an animated slideshow.

AWP also lacked a cohesive, marketable image. The branding package I created included web copy, logo design, business card design, and the overall graphic standards for the website.

    Tumblr Theme Design

    momoney mohouses screenshot

My first foray into blog theme design, I put together this little number as a favor for an up-and-coming personal finance blogger.

Bold colors and a textured background highlight the blog's urban flavour and "savvy, sassy" tone. The social media icon set was created to complement the blog theme.

Juggernaut Pictures is an independant film production company founded by Scott Renyard that specializes in environmental films, documentaries, and comedy.

This dark-background site was built using HTML5 and includes embedded video and multiple jQuery photo galleries.

  • Client / Awkward Whale Productions: "Catechism"

    Design + Development

With the release of the short, comedic film Catechism, AWP wanted a website that would promote their latest production and direct site visitors into their social media marketing streams. As the film is primarily a coming-of-age story, the website includes handdrawn graphic elements, like the kind you would find scribbled in the margins of a highschool notebook.
